Senior ROTC Partner School Information

This site is designed for students at Cabrini College, Eastern University, and Rosemont College.  Valley Forge Military College cadets may check out the Early Commission Program (ECP) page for more information about this unique program only available to them.

Why Army ROTC?

College students enrolled in Army ROTC learn how to succeed in any competitive environment.

Cadets participating in the Military Science and Leadership curriculum enjoy many benefits, which may include help with college tuition, acquisition of professional military skills, practical experience in group leadership dynamics, and the respect of future employers.

Simply participating in the ROTC program does not commit a student to serve in the U.S. Army and there are several options available to Army ROTC cadets.

We suggest taking some classes to see if Army ROTC is something you are interested in.  Students can take the first two years of Army ROTC without any service obligation or contract.  Accepting a scholarship requires a service obligation and signed contract.

Contact the Valley Forge Army ROTC Scholarship and Enrollment Officer for further information.

Army ROTC Time Commitment

In addition to classroom instruction, the ROTC Leadership Laboratory is a weekly 3-hour period of practical instruction integral to the Military Science and Leadership curriculum. It is conducted Thursday afternoons with the objective being to provide practical application of classroom instruction in a simulated leadership environment.

Contracted cadets are required to attend morning physical fitness training three times a week as well as field training exercises to perform basic and advanced skills training, such as small unit tactics, land navigation, and basic rifle marksmanship.

Program Eligibility, Scholarships, and Incentives

Minimum eligibility requirements for Army ROTC are:

  • Cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Combined math and reading score of 850 on the SAT or 17 on the ACT
  • Pass a Department of Defense medical exam
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be a U.S. citizen of good moral character

Army ROTC Scholarships

Minimum eligibility requirements for an Army ROTC scholarship are:

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Combined math and reading score of 920 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT
  • Pass a Department of Defense medical exam
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be a U.S. citizen of good moral character

Army ROTC Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s merit and grades, rather than financial need, and pay full tuition and some fees at these levels:

  • 4 Year full tuition
  • 3 Year full tuition, effective sophomore year
  • 2 Year full tuition, effective junior year

Some colleges and universities offer scholarships and grants that can be used towards room and board costs if you receive an ROTC scholarship.  Each college and university is different as are the amounts they may offer.  Contact your school for more information.

Monthly Living Allowance

Army ROTC scholarships also provide monthly subsistence allowance during the school year which begins when you sign your contract.

  • 1st year: $250 per month
  • 2nd year: $300 per month
  • 3rd year: $450 per month
  • 4th year: $500 per month

This allowance is also available to non-scholarship Cadets enrolled in the Army ROTC Advanced Course (3rd and 4th year).

Who is Eligible for the ROTC Program?

Incoming Freshmen

If you are an incoming freshman at Cabrini College, Eastern University, or Rosemont College, you can successfully take all 4 years of ROTC with the Valley Forge Military College ROTC Department.  Each semester you would take an ROTC class.  We suggest trying out the program first and, if you decide that the program fits, you can apply for a scholarship.

Current Freshmen

If you are currently a freshman at Cabrini College, Eastern University, or Rosemont College, it isn’t too late to join ROTC.  We can work with you to help you complete the classes you may have missed.  Again, we suggest trying out the program first and, if you decide that the program fits, you can apply for a scholarship.

Incoming Sophomores

If you are an incoming sophomore at Cabrini College, Eastern University, or Rosemont College, it still is not too late to take ROTC and become an officer in the U.S. Army.  We can work with you to help you complete the classes you may have missed.  Again, we suggest trying out the program first and, if you decide that the program fits, you can apply for a scholarship.

Current Sophomores

If you are a current sophomore at Cabrini College, Eastern University, or Rosemont College, you can still take Army ROTC and become a U.S. Army officer.  You can successfully complete the requirements of the freshman year by taking freshmen Army ROTC classes simultaneously with sophomore classes.  Once caught up, you progress through the program on a natural path. Again, we suggest trying out the program first and, if you decide that the program fits, you can apply for a scholarship.

Incoming Juniors

If you are an incoming junior at Cabrini College, Eastern University, or Rosemont College, you can still take Army ROTC and become a U.S. Army Officer; however time is very critical at this point and you must make this decision before your junior year begins.

Instead of taking the first and second years of Army ROTC, you would attend the Leadership Training Course (LTC) at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, during the summer between your sophomore and junior year, provided you have completed 54 credit hours at your school.  There is no service obligation contract to attend this course; this is your “try it out” period.  If you complete the course and do not think the Army is right for you, there is no obligation to continue.

If you complete the course satisfactorily and wish to continue with Army ROTC, you must contract with the Army at this point.  You can also apply for a two-year full tuition scholarship.

Current Juniors, Incoming Seniors, and Current Seniors

We are reluctant to use the word “impossible” since all situations are different.  Please contact us to discuss if opportunities still exist for your specific situation.
