College Faculty Profiles

Dr. Kathleen Anderson
Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Anderson has an outstanding background as an award-winning educator, teacher and administrator at both the college and high school levels. She has most recently been serving as the Executive Assistant to the President and VP for Student Affairs at the Community College of Philadelphia. Prior to that assignment, she was VP for Enrollment Management and Dean of the School of Continuing Studies at Chestnut Hill College. She has taught both management and communications at Penn State University and Chestnut Hill College.

At the academy level, she was a senior administrator at Agnes Irwin School and taught history at The Rosemont School of the Holy Child, The International School in London and Cheltenham Township Schools. Dr. Anderson is both a certified Principal and School Superintendent.

Dr. Anderson is an acknowledged leader in her profession having been selected and honored as Educator of the Year by the Association for Continuing Higher Education Region IV. Dr. Anderson holds the following degrees:  B.A. from Chestnut Hill College; M.A. from Villanova University, History; M.A. from Villanova University, Educational Administration; Ed.D. from Widener University and Certificate from Harvard University School of Education.

COL Michael D. Krause, Ph.D., USA (Ret.)

COL Michael D. Krause, Ph.D., USA (Ret.) is an accomplished professional military officer, educator, author and businessman. He graduated with his B.A. (History), Norwich University, received his M.A. (Modern European History), Georgetown University and his Ph.D. (Modern European History), Georgetown University. He also holds a Diploma, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and Diploma, National War College.

While serving on active duty he was Chief, Logistics Planning Cell, 22d Support Command, Deputy Chief of Military History and Deputy Commander, U.S. Army Center of Military History, Professor of Strategy and Military History, National War College, Battalion Commander, 3rd Support Command and Battalion Commander, 7th Infantry Division.

Dr. Krause has taught at: the United States Military Academy at West Point, University of Kentucky, University of Maryland (Far East Division), Chapman College, University of Maryland (European Division), Naval War College and American Military University.

In the civilian sector he was Owner of KRI, a strategic planning company for both the public and private sector; Director, Logistics Planning at Amazon.com and Chairman, SecureChain, Inc. doing business analysis and leadership development.

His awards and honors include: Member, Army Science Board; Honorary Research Fellow, Korean Institute for Defense Analysis and Senior Advisor, Reserve Forces Policy Board; awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Secretary of Army Award for Public Service, et al. He is the author of numerous publications.

CPT George Anderson
Business (Macro/Micro Economics)

George Anderson earned his BA from The Citadel in Charleston South Carolina and his MS in Education from The University of Southern California.  He is currently a PhD candidate in Organizational Management.  A decorated soldier, CPT Anderson has served three tours of duty since 9-11, including a year’s service at the American Embassy in Amman Jordan.

Dedicated to the students and to Valley Forge, CPT Anderson brings vast experience in business and corporate finance to his position here at Valley Forge.  He spent almost twenty years working with various Wall Street firms raising capital, managing organizations and directing the investment of millions in assets.

Dr. Anthony Celso has been teaching at VFMC for 10 years and has been in the profession for 20 years.  Dr. Celso is the author of six peer reviewed articles and one book chapter on various aspects of comparative politics and European politics. He has been the recipient of three outstanding (two at University of Central Florida and one at VFMC). He teaches globalization, comparative politics, international relations, Western Civilization, American government and the Holocaust at VFMC. He is advisor to Phi Theta Kappa and the College Republicans.

CPT Ed Harris
Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice and Social Studies

CPT Ed Harris has been teaching at VFMC as an Adjunct from 2001 to 2005 and as an Assistant Professor since 2005.  He has been a Law Enforcement instructor since 1974

CPT Harris retired from the Pennsylvania State Police with 30 years of service.  The last 8 years was in the Bureau of Training and Education.  Four years working off of a Federal Grant - training Law Enforcement Officers in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.  Past Chair of the Montgomery County Domestic Violence Legal Network and still active in Domestic Violence causes.  Present Deputy Director of the Municipal Police Academy for Montgomery County Community College.  Professional Dog Handler, breeding and showing Great Danes.  Married to Phyllis for 39 years, living in Montgomery County

LTC Hood has been teaching at VFMC for 21 years as fulltime employee; 2 years as an adjunct instructor, and has been in the profession for 40 years.  She holds a Pennsylvania Permanent Secondary Certification in English and French. She is also the coordinator of the College Transfer Program. 

LTC Hood’s primary responsibility is the oversight of the College Transfer Program that places 98% of graduates in competitive colleges and universities nationally.  In addition to mentoring cadets throughout the search and application process, the Transfer Office sponsors visits to local campuses to acquaint students with special majors  and programs and has initiated a speakers’ series that brings outstanding representatives from a wide range of careers to VF to talk about the unique rewards and challenges of their chosen vocations.

LTC Hood also coordinates the Martin Luther King Day of Service, an opportunity for the entire College (including College faculty) to select a project from a list of 10-11 projects serving children, senior citizens, adolescents, the handicapped, residents of the inner city, veterans, abused women, in honor of Dr. King’s legacy.

During her time at VFMC, LTC Hood has received the Order of Anthony Wayne and Teacher of the Year three times.

Her interests include reading, gardening, and traveling.  Her family includes her husband, Rich; daughter, Lori who is an environmental lawyer; son, David who is currently completing graduate degree in Architecture at U. of Pennsylvania School of Design.

COL Grace Jones

COL Jones teaches Statistics and Pre-Calculus to our College cadets. Having been at the Forge for 17 years, her career has spanned 28 years. Originally from Norristown, PA, COL Jones earned her bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University and Master of Education from Temple University. She was awarded a Supervisory Certificate in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University. COL Jones runs the Opening Eyes Mentoring Program at Valley Forge and is also an introduction leader at Landmark Education Corporation. Her hobbies and special interests include tennis, youth programs, and promoting an end to violence.

Dr. G.E. Patrick Murray
Professor Emeritus of History
B.A., Villanova University; M.A., Kansas State University; Ph.D., Temple University

Dr. Murray currently teaches Western Civilization to College Freshmen and Sophomores. During his twenty-five years at Valley Forge Military College he has also taught American Military History, and courses in World War II and the Vietnam War. Dr. Murray provided leadership as Dean of the College from August 2003 through December 2004. Dr. Murray also serves as an advisor to VFMC's Phi Theta Kappa (Junior College Honor Society). Dr. Murray has previously taught as an adjunct professor at Delaware County Community College, Penn State and Temple University. He obtained his B.A. from Villanova University; completed graduate work at Kansas State University; and earned his doctorate from Temple University.

A member of the Organization of American Historians, the Society of Military History and the American Association of University Professors, Dr. Murray has written three books (Eisenhower Versus Montgomery: The Continuing Debate, 1996; Victory in Western Europe, 1844-45, 1998; Bomber Missions: Aviation Art of World War II , 2000), and has several articles to his credit. He considers himself fortunate to have studied under Steven Ambrose and Russell Weigley, "two of America's foremost military historians and wonderful mentors," he says. Each year during Recognition Weekend, Dr. Murray leads a group on a tour through Valley Forge National Historical Park. This year will mark the tour's 11th year. Married for 33 years, he has two daughters and enjoys home repair, carpentry and reading in his spare time.

Dr. Arlene Noble

Dr. Noble teaches Introduction to French I & II, Intermediate French I & II, French Literature in Translation, Contemporary French Civilization and Culture, Introduction to Spanish I & II, and Intermediate Spanish I & II to college freshmen and sophomores.  She has been teaching at VFMC for 13 years, has been in the profession for 28, and holds her Pennsylvania State Teaching Certification
           
Dr. Arlene Noble has been teaching at Valley Forge Military College since August 1993. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D., Dr. Noble teaches courses in introductory and intermediate French and Spanish, French Literature in Translation, and Contemporary French Civilization and Culture to VFMC freshmen and sophomores. She also serves as advisor to the College French Club. During her teaching career at Valley Forge, Dr. Noble has been honored with the Order of Anthony Wayne and has been a multiple-year recipient of both the VFMA&C Excellence in Teaching Award and the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers award. Dr. Noble holds Pennsylvania State Teaching Certification and is a member of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and the Modern Language Association (MLA). In her spare time, Dr. Noble enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing the piano.

Dr. Mohammed Rabbi

Dr. Mohammed Rabbi serves as a professor of life sciences at the college, where he teaches Biology, Environmental Science and Chemistry and is the faculty advisor of Muslim Cadets at the Academy and college. Dr. Rabbi joined the faculty of the College in 2005, having previously taught computer science at The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT. Born in Bangladesh, he earned his M.Sc. and M. Phil in Biochemistry from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and Univ. of Leeds, U.K., respectively. Dr. Rabbi did his Ph.D. on Plant Molecular Biology at Miami University, Ohio and earned his second B.S in computer science from Wentworth Inst. of Technology, Boston. Dr. Rabbi has extensive research and teaching experiences and has authored many papers on the AIDS/HIV. His most recent research was on Leukemia at Boston University Medical Center, where he worked as a Research Associate. Dr. Rabbi strongly believes in the lasting value of education on young minds and encourages his students to explore the importance of research in biology and life sciences in today’s world. Dr. Rabbi enjoys reading, music and traveling and is interested in promoting inter-cultural and inter-faith understanding. He is married for 33 years and has three children.

In addition to teaching composition and rhetoric to college cadets at Valley Forge, CPT Maria Zullo provides instruction in various literature courses. CPT Zullo grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania and, after a tour of duty in the United States Navy, attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received bachelor degrees in English and French. She earned a master's degree in English from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, before becoming a Ph.D. candidate in Composition and Rhetoric at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she is currently completing her dissertation. CPT Zullo’s research interests include computer-mediated writing instruction and post-colonial literatures; she has taught at various colleges and universities including Pennsylvania State University, Temple University, Appalachian State University, and Luzerne County Community College, and has received awards and recognition for her innovative and creative teaching style.

When she is not in the classroom, CPT Zullo enjoys exploring the world with her two daughters, Caitlin and Shelby, attending theater, reading, and learning Italian. A consummate bibliophile, CPT Zullo has worked as a professional editor and writer and, one day, hopes to pen the great American novel.
