Stacey R. Sauchuk, Ph.D., President

Stacey R. Sauchuk, Ph.D. named VFMA&C President


Stacey R. Sauchuk, Ph.D., was appointed by the Board of Trustees to the position of President, Valley Forge Military Academy & College in April 2013. Dr. Sauchuk is the first female civilian President of a private military academy and college.

Dr. Sauchuk brings to this position over 20 years of experience as an accomplished scholar, teacher, businesswoman, and manager; including seven years as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Eastern University, her alma mater.

Dr. Sauchuk has a Bachelor of Social Work from Eastern College, a Masters of Education in School Psychology from Temple University, and a Doctorate in School Psychology from Temple University.

Prior to her appointment at Valley Forge, Dr. Sauchuk served four years as President of The Art Institute of Philadelphia. In her capacity she managed a multi-million dollar operating budget, was successful in exceeding revenue growth for the school year over year, securing Bachelor degree-granting approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, expanding the infrastructure, building a technology center and state-of-the-art student apartments for the 2,400 student population, and developing new academic programs.

Following her time at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Dr. Sauchuk spent 11 years with Education Management Corporation as the Senior Vice President of Academic Programs and Student Affairs, managing academic affairs, student affairs, career services, and curriculum development. In her role, she was responsible for ensuring a high quality academic and overall experience for 130,000 students across 96 campuses. She continually improved processes to gain efficiencies while enhancing student services, including the development of centralized library purchasing, streamlining the function of the registrar, and contracting with an employee assistance program to provide support to students.

Most recently, Dr. Sauchuk served as the Chief Operating Officer for ESF Summer Camps, Inc. In her position, she helped to manage the operations of a multi-million dollar education company that serves children and families through high quality summer camps, after-school and holiday camps.

Dr. Sauchuk has been awarded a graduate fellowship in School Psychology from Temple University, graduated Magna Cum Laude, Eastern College, and earned one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” Leadership Awards.

Dr. Sauchuk is the 11th president in the history of Valley Forge Military Academy & College.

COL Brown comes to Valley Forge Military Academy and College from Girard College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he served as the Principal of the Middle School for sixteen years until his retirement in June, 2010. Prior to Girard College, COL Brown worked in the field of correctional education for over seventeen years at the EMC and RCA Schools located on the grounds of the Bensalem Youth Development Center. While at the EMC and RCA Schools, COL Brown taught Social Studies while also serving as the Dean of Students and the Assistant Principal.

COL Brown is also very much involved in the field of higher education. He currently teaches as an adjunct instructor at both the Community College of Philadelphia and Gwynedd-Mercy College. At CCP he is a member of the Social Science Department where he teaches both Sociology and Political Science. At Gwynedd-Mercy College he is a member of the Educational Administration Department where he teaches in the fast-track Educational Leadership Program in the Graduate School of Education.

COL Brown began his teaching career in the School District of Philadelphia where he taught Social Studies. He has been recognized for his excellence in the classroom with numerous awards and citations. He holds memberships in the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Middle School Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School Principals. While at Girard College, COL Brown served as a member of the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild. COL Brown is also very active in the Columbia University Club of Philadelphia where he served as Vice-President for two years.

COL Brown currently resides in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania with his wife Lorraine. He has one daughter, Dana.
