College Wrestling
Valley Forge Military College is proud of its wrestling tradition
and excited about its future. As a charter member of the National
Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), VFMC wrestling has a history
of excellence in competition and a superb character development program.
The VFMC squad competes against NCAA Division I and III teams, NJCAA
teams and other NCWA teams. From providing opportunities for experienced
wrestlers to compete on the national level, to instructing and developing
novice wrestlers, the VFMC team maintains a competitive schedule with
opportunities for every level of talent and ability.
The team has trained annually with Olympic wrestlers and is regularly
invited by the US Olympic wrestling coach Greg Stroebel to wrestle his
Lehigh University squad. The team has traveled to six different states
for numerous matches and tournaments, and the average VFMC wrestler can
expect between 30-40 matches in a season.
Success in wrestling has been demonstrated on and off the mat. On the
mat, the 1998 wrestling team produced two NCWA National Champions. The 1999
season resulted in Justin Bellman winning his second national title, as well
as the national NCWA MVP Award and an All-American. The 2000 season garnished
another VFMC All-American, and the 2001 season ended with two additional
All-Americans. Off the mat, alumni wrestlers serve our nation in the Army,
Navy and Marines, attend national research institutions and service
academies, and all of them take the ideals of teamwork, dedication and
selfless service to all ends of the globe.
VFMC is proud of the accomplishments and dedication of its alumni
wrestlers, devoted to its current wrestlers and excited about future
wrestlers for the team.
In 2005 two college wrestlers, Cadets Brian McMennamin and Billy Rider,
advanced to the NCWA National Championships in Dallas.
