About the LASC
History of the LASC
The Valley Forge Military College Learning Assessment and Support Center (LASC), established in 2009, grew out of the former College Writing Center, which had existed for many years. A complete renovation of the existing facility occurred during summer 2009 with support from PA Department of Education and Verizon grants, and a full-time director was appointed in January 2010 to oversee the operation and growth of the center. Since its creation, the LASC has become an important location for all learning support services.
The LASC facility is outfitted with computers, SmartBoard technology, and a printer/copier/scanner for student use. In addition to peer and professional tutoring, students can take advantage of assistive technology like Dragon Naturally Speaking to word process assignments and search academic databases and the web. A full-time Reading Specialist is on staff, and supplemental computer-based instruction is available to students struggling with reading, writing, and mathematics. Additionally, the LASC works with students with diagnosed learning disabilities to provide academic services and accommodations to those students to ensure equal access to the institution.
The Learning Assessment and Support Center bolsters the mission of the College and Institution by providing coordination and implementation of initiatives to promote the academic success, retention, and persistence to graduation of all students.
