Overview
Located in Wayne, Pennsylvania, 15 miles west of Philadelphia, Valley Forge
Military Academy & College is a nonsectarian, co-educational two-year transfer
college and all-male academy boarding school, grades 7-12 and postgraduate,
focused on educating the whole person with a commitment to the Five Cornerstones
of Valley Forge: academic excellence, character development, personal motivation,
physical development and leadership.
Offerings
- The Academy is a college preparatory school which follows military traditions. Its model for education is based upon the five Cornerstones of Valley Forge.
- The college offers Associate of Arts degrees in Liberal Arts (Government/History or Language/Culture tracks), Business, Leadership/Entrepreneurial Studies, General Studies and Criminal Justice, and Associate of Science degrees in Pre-Engineering, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and General Sciences.
- The U.S. Army Early Commissioning Program. A two-year program leading to a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve as a graduating college sophomore. Valley Forge is the only college in the Northeast that offers this program.
- A Service Academy Preparation Program. Valley Forge has an impressive preparation for the service academies. Our College has a 99% success rate in assisting young adults with securing admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.
- All Academy Cadets participate in JROTC – a citizen and leadership development program created by the National Defense Act of 1916. Retired U.S. Army personnel provide leadership training that emphasizes decision-making, problem solving, teamwork, responsibility, communication, and values.
Enrollment
- The school is home to more than 600 cadets from 30 states and 35 countries.
- More than 400 Academy Cadets are enrolled, with approximately 225 enrolled in the College.
Campus
- The 120-acre campus located on the Main Line is in both Chester and Delaware County.
- There are 83 buildings, including 43 houses and 20 apartments.
Library
- May H. Baker Memorial Library was built in 1977 and is named in honor of the wife of founder LT General Milton G. Baker.
- General Collection contains approximately 100,000 volumes with collection depth in World and U.S. History, Military History, Geopolitics, Fine Arts and Literature.
- Reference Collection in both print and online formats. Access to more than two dozen online research resources includes general and subject-focused encyclopedias, full-text magazine/journal retrieval, librarian-recommended scholarly websites, research/writing tools, and reading promotion programs.
- Special Collections and Archives house a collection of rare and historical books, World War II photographs taken by the Signal Corps, and books that have been inscribed by authors or illustrators.
Athletics
- College Varsity Intercollegiate Sports include basketball, cross country, football, horsemanship, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling.
- College Intramural Sports include golf, riflery, and volleyball and touch football.
- Academy Varsity and Junior Varsity Sports include baseball, basketball, football, cross country, golf, indoor track and field, lacrosse, polo, riflery, show jumping, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling.
- Academy Intramural Sports include basketball, 3-on-3 basketball, cross country, dodge ball, flag football, football, forge ball (team hardball), indoor soccer, in-line hockey, kickball, volleyball and water polo.
- Trainer Hall (completed in 2000) and Price Athletic Center include 3 full-size and 6 intermediate-size basketball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fully equipped weight room, 9 outdoor tennis courts, an all-weather track, an indoor polo pavilion, stables, indoor rifle range and 6 athletic fields for baseball, football, lacrosse and soccer.
