Band Wins ‘Ronald L. Horton Award’ at Festival

Military schools from across the nation gathered at Norwich University February 23-26 for musical clinics and workshops. Valley Forge Military Academy’s Band won The Ronald L. Horton Award at the 41st Annual Military School Band & Choir Festival!

The Ronald L. Horton Award is presented to the high school that is best prepared for the festival based on the highest mean audition score on chair placement auditions. The award is named in honor of Ronald L. Horton, Ph.D., a former bandmaster at Hargrave Military Academy and Fork Union Military Academy. From the revival of the Southeastern Military School Band Festival in 1978, its expansion, and the founding of the Military School Band Association, Major Horton was the driving force behind the success of the Military School Band Association and the Military School Band Festival.
