VFMAC is pleased to announce that Colonel Stuart B. Helgeson, USMCR, has joined the leadership team at VFMAC as the Commandant of Cadets. This is an integral role at VFMAC and the Administration and Board of Trustees are excited to have Colonel Helgeson on board. This addition to our team is the final piece to our new leadership team and is paramount to our growth and success in the future.
In his role, Colonel Helgeson is responsible for all non-academic aspects of cadet life ranging from the processing of cadets on arrival to their departure at the completion of the school year.
The Commandant sets the leadership culture for the Corps of Cadets, ensuring all leaders support a safe, secure, positive, encouraging, and inspiring learning environment characterized by mutual respect, discipline, and esprit de corps. The Commandant focuses on the individual development of Cadets upon Five Cornerstones: Academic Excellence; Personal Motivation; Character Development; Physical Development; and Leadership.
Colonel Helgeson, who has 27 years of commissioned service, is currently the Regional Coordinator, Reserve Support Program 3, for the Mid Atlantic & Northeast.
He completed his undergraduate education from Penn State University in State College, PA. Upon graduation he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1989 and was promoted to colonel in 2012. He also earned his master’s degree from Capitol Technology University.
